(If you're wondering if I want you to)

I've probably listened to this song ten times today.

Few things make me as giddy as a new Weezer song.

But No More Stories Are Told Today I'm Sorry They Washed Away No More Stories The World Is Grey I'm Tired Let's Wash Away on vinyl might be one of them.

On an unrelated note, I need some audiobook recommendations. I became a member of audible.com about a year an half ago and I have all these audiobook credits piling up. After the first couple audiobooks I downloaded I realized that I can't just download any book... it has to be something that I probably wouldn't normally read. And this really limits things because I'd rather read almost anything than just listen to it. But there are some things I'd rather just listen to (for example, I just downloaded Pride and Prejudice and Zombies); maybe if there is a good biography out there or perhaps some interesting non-fiction book? Any recommendations would be wonderful!

  1. what about 1000 years in solitude? maybe you already read this. But for some reason I think I would rather listen to it.

  4. Heart of Darkness by Joseph Conrad. I listened to it on tape. I think it’s one of those books everyone's supposed to read or something. I still remember how the British narrator said "The horror! The horror!"

Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte (or other slightly girly books that you might now normally pick up and read). I promise there is a good amount of excitement and intrigue once you get past the first half. It's the perfect gothic novel.

Gulliver's Travels by Jonathan Swift. I read this in 7th grade. I remember a lot of the vocabulary being over my head, so I ended up listening to the second half of it on tape which helped me understand it a little better. I think I'd like to physically read it again, but like I said, it was good on tape.

As for non-fiction, maybe Benjamin Franklin's autobiography? I haven’t read it, but I’ve always wanted to.

  5. dude. i want that to be a true story so bad.

and that mew cover art creeps me out.

books on tape is an entirely different experience than reading a book. good call on only picking certain stories.

    meet our kid already.

  6. Zach -- When they tour for this album we should meet up somewhere for a show.

Leah -- I'm not sure about Jane Eyre... maybe if it were Jane Eyre and Robots from the Future. But I will definitely look into the others.

Chelsea -- They also have Sense and Sensibility and Sea Monsters. Haven't been able to find it on audible yet though. And I'm working on the coming up there thing. I should have it figured out this weekend.

  7. Skulduggery Pleasant. i don't know how i feel about giving this out as a recommendation seeing as i haven't actually listened to it yet but my cousin gave it to me and has told me about it. it definitely seems awesome and a good one for just listening to. also i'm reading city of bones (book one of the mortal instruments series) right now which as been kinda rad and i could see how it would be a good listen to book for ya. it's this whole fantasy world with demons and the demon killers. people compare it to twilight but it's different. not as much romance, more weapons, fighting, killing, and the characters are sarcastic and witty at times instead of brooding and serious.

  8. 1000 years of solitude? Is that the sequel to 100 years of solitude? Whcih by the way I don't really recommend unless you like magical realism, which you might.
I try to get everyone I talk to to read (or in this case listen) to Cormac McCarthy. Great author, writes vivid descriptions and usually has some stark violence that is more poetic than it is anything else. He wrote No Country For Old Men, which was good, Blood Meridian, which was really intense but at sometimes slow, and The Road, which is probably my second favorite book.
Besides that I recently read The Children of Hurin, one of Tolkiens manuscripts they turned into a book after his death, and it was really good.
Besides that come to Austin already.

  9. Thanks Afton... City of Bones sounds like it might be worth looking into.

Danny, I read The Road last April. It was a really good book but not my favorite or anything. I don't know how I feel about Cormac McCarthy's style of writing, mostly his unconventional dialog; it just doesn't set right with me. Maybe it's just something to get used to. But his books are something I'd rather read than listen to. I've wanted to read No Country and Blood Meridian, but they're pretty low on my list right now. Thanks for the suggestions though, your literary opinion is one I put a lot of stock in.
